WINNER of “Tallinn Black Nights” and 12 Silver Crane Awards, PIETINIA KRONIKAS (The Southern
Chronicles) is a modern-day Romeo & Juliette story, based on the best-selling novel Pietinia Kronikas
(“Southside Chronicles”) by literary critic, poet and writer Rimantas Kmita.
The film follows Rimantas, a streetwise 17-year‐old growing up in Lithuania in the 1990s as individuals
struggle to find their own identity as the country establishes its independence from Soviet rule.
Rimantas becomes smitten with Monika, studying literature at a private school. Her love of the arts
opens his eyes to a different world, challenging his beliefs and view of the world.
PIETINIA KRONIKAS (The Southern Chronicles) was nominated for an unprecedented 14 Silver Crane
Awards at this year’s Lithuanian Oscars, earning 12 Silver Crane Awards including Best Feature Film
(Lukas Trimonis), Best Director (Ignas Miskinis), Best Screenplay (Egle Vertelyte), Best Editing (Danielius
Kokanauskis), Best Supporting Actor (Robertas Petraitis), and Best Supporting Actress (Irena Sikorskyte).
The film has broken all box office records in Lithuania becoming the highest-grossing film of all time. It
has earned over 3 million Euros surpassing “Avatar: The way of Water,” and “Minions,” attracting over
411,000 viewers in a country of 2.9 million citizens.
